What are the main differences between a flue or vent and unvented or flueless?
Flued gas heaters have a vent / flue / chimney / pipe that brings in air from outside for the gas heater to heat up, the combusted gases are then expelled outside. The flue needs to be installed on an outside wall.
A vent free or flueless gas heater does not have such a pipe and can be installed on any wall in the room.
Is it safe to use an Eskabe unvented gas heater?
A specifically designed Eskabe unvented or fluelsss gas heater is safe to use because they have a double safety system: 1) should the flame go out, for whatever reason, within a few seconds the safety valve will automatically cut off the gas to the burners and 2) by detecting the decreased oxygen levels (between 2 to 3% below normal values,) the ODSPilot will automatically cut off the gas, completely turning off the heater.
Can an Eskabe gas heater be installed on the floor?
No, all Eskabe gas heaters must be installed with a minimum floor clearance of 12cm, up to 25cm – more is better. This is to prevent overheating in the floor below the heater. Eskabe gas heaters use natural convection processes between hot and cool air flows therefore, air needs to continually circulate the heater. Unlike traditional radiation heating, cool air will enter the bottom of the heater and hot air is emitted from the heater, to heat the room. A heater positioned on the floor will not allow this heat transfer to take place and the room will not heat up properly.
Do Eskabe gas heaters need regular maintenance?
Yes, all gas appliances need annual performance reviews of their safety devices and verification; their burners should also be cleaned. Should the gas heater not be used for long periods of time, for example during the summer months, it is recommended that they are maintained once a year, usually at the beginning of the winter season.
Do Eskabe gas heaters make moisture in the room?
When a flue or vent is installed with the heater, the burnt gases are expelled outside. When no flue or vent is installed some of those burnt gases are expelled into the room. Should the room not have good ventilation – there is no small window opened during heater use – the humidity of the room may rise causing condensation.
Can I use my Eskabe gas heater with LPG or bottled gas?
Eskabe gas heaters are available to be used with either Natural Gas or LPG (Not interchangeable by the buyer). When making a selection, please indicate which gas you will be using and we will ensure that the heater is supplied correctly for that use.
Do Eskabe gas heaters come with a thermostat? How do they work?
Both vented and unvented Eskabe gas heaters come with a thermostatic control knob. The control lets you select the temperature that you would like to heat the room to. Once that temperature has been reached, the thermostat will then cycle the burner on and off to maintain the room temperature. This minimises gas usage and maximises your comfort.
